For young children, the essentials of their bedroom are simple. They just need the right toys and you provide everything else! But when they become a teenager they may want new things all the time and will change their attitudes and habits almost overnight (and on a regular basis). This is why it’s important to understand that your teenager’s bedroom has the essentials that make their room feel like home.

The Right Bed

A new bed should be an investment that keeps them occupied for years, but it can also benefit from being a space that serves a number of purposes. If your child is into something like gaming, there are many gaming beds out there that can minimise space, where the bed is higher up, like a bunk bed. A gaming bed such as this is also useful when it comes to doing homework. Therefore, your child is not going to be sitting in the dining room completing their last-minute assignments all of the time.

Storage

Your teenager is not going to be playing with toys anymore, and there will come a point when they are getting rid of their toys, only for them to be replaced with more clothes than you can count! Having storage is vital to keep everything organised. This is where a dresser can be very useful because the flat surface can display decorations and things that are important to them, but can also store some of the more sentimental items and personal collections.

A Photo Wall

Picture frames and photos strewn across the bedroom is not always on top of your teenager’s list of essentials for their room. But as they get older they are going to naturally gravitate towards a couple of important people in their lives, and what better way to commemorate them than to buy photo frames? You could have digital photo frames so your child can easily transfer images from their phone, which will keep things fresh. There is also a lot to be said for personalised photo frames. You can get plenty of great photo frames and also print out photos through an online service so your child can always be reminded of the people they care about, which may or may not include you! After all, they are teenagers, so don’t be surprised if you are excluded from their photo wall right now!

Lighting

You can’t just have the ceiling lights; it is so important to have some other options in their room. If they are studying in their room, they are going to need a desk lamp, but this is also the perfect opportunity for your teenager to start making the space their own. Multi-coloured LED lights can create different patterns and colours, which can keep things fresh.

Your teenager’s bedroom should be their sanctuary, and it’s the place where they will retreat to feel like themselves, especially when they’re going through all those changes. Giving them the essentials can make them feel like this is their home.
